Non-fungible tokens (NFTs) are the gold rush of the early 2020s. The way the sector exploded, and the amount of attention it got from people, including celebrities looking for their next venture, was unlike anything the world had ever seen. Even cryptocurrencies took more time to get the momentum that NFTs seemed to get overnight.
Now, things have finally started to cool down in 2022, leaving the market wide open for a whole new roster of people who’re in it out of the love of creating projects that have a future beyond the hype that comes from a famous name.
In this new crop of artists, two names that stand out are Ugonzo and DaRealGenius, the creative duo whose works include PsychoKitties, PsychoMollies, and Mad Hare Society. Ulysses Gonzales and Nelson J. Madera, their respective names, have been steadily building their reputation through launching these three projects — one of which was Genius’ solo project — while managing to check all the boxes for a project destined to succeed. So if it’s still left unclear to anyone why Ugonzo and DaRealGenius are as big as they are right now, here are the main reasons.
The initial project that would launch a whole metaverse was the PsychoKitties. With 10,000 characters in the collection, it sold out fairly quickly at a mint price of $150 with more than 80,000 people in queue. For PsychoMollies, the portion that wasn’t airdropped to existing Kitties holders — some 7,500 characters — was sold out in just 13 minutes. Clearly, this power duo of NFT artistry can deliver.
Going further, Ugonzo and DaRealGenius created not only awesome art for the characters, but also a great community-building story that evolves with each project that’s added to the overall narrative of the PsychoKitties Metaverse. They’ve already planned and implemented great projects and events, such as the PsychoMollies and the first MetaRave, and the team recently announced that one of the upcoming features of the Psycho-type NFTs is the possibility to breed. The feature is set to become active in the second half of 2022. It’ll be interesting to see the direction it will throw the narrative.
Finally, Ugonzo and DaRealGenius have made sure to include philanthropy in what they do. Charitable contributions are one of the functionalities of PsychoMollies. So far, the Kitties Metaverse team has donated over $400,000 to charitable causes, including taking care of veterans and helping survivors of domestic violence — as if the great art, the delightfully weird storyline and a realistic roadmap weren’t enough to launch these guys to the stars. We can’t wait to see what’s next for the powerful duo.
